DESCRIPTION:The third Cheiron Synchrotron School will be held at SPring-8 i
 n Japan from 2 to 11 November 2009. The school is held annually under the 
 auspices of the Asia-Oceania Forum for Synchrotron Radiation Research (AOF
 SRR).\nThe Cheiron School's main aim is to provide useful and basic knowle
 dge and perspectives on synchrotron radiation science and technology for g
 raduate students\, postdoctoral fellows\, young scientists and engineers w
 ho wish to pursue their career in a field requiring synchrotron radiation 
 and join a synchrotron radiation facility in the Asia-Oceania region.\nThe
  curriculum will include:\n\n    Lectures by experts in the field of SR sc
 ience and technology: accelerator science\, insertion devices\, beamlines/
 optics\, detectors and a wide range of experimental techniques and applica
 tions including diffraction and scattering\, soft and hard x-ray microscop
 y\, powder diffraction\, small angle scattering\, protein crystallography\
 , medical imaging\, x-ray fluorescence analysis\, vacuum ultraviolet (VUV)
  applications\, infrared spectroscopy/microscopy\, etc\n    Laboratory (be
 amline) practical training sessions using SPring-8 beamline facilities\n  
   Round-table discussions with lecturers and SR researchers/engineers abou
 t practical and specific activities at synchrotron facilities.\n\nMore inf
