DESCRIPTION:Small Angle Scattering (x-ray and neutron) has become a popular
technique for analysing a wide range of materials on nanometre lengths sc
ales. With the continual development of laboratory instruments and increas
ing access to x-ray and neutron beamlines\, it has become relatively strai
ghtforward to take measurements. For SAS\, the most challenging aspect is
often data analysis and interpretation. Irena is one of the most widely us
ed software packages for analysing small angle scattering and is applicabl
e to a wide range of applications including materials science\, chemistry\
, and soft matter systems. \n&#160\;\nThe Australian Synchrotron is deligh
ted to announce a two day\, hands on workshop on the Irena package by its
author\, Dr. Jan Ilavsky from the Advanced Photon Source\, Chicago USA.\nT
o register for this workhop\, click here.\n&#160\;\nThe workshop will cont
ain a mix of presentations and hands-on sessions covering the data process
ing\, simulation and modelling capabilities of Irena. It is intended for c
urrent Users of the software\, in order to boost your knowledge and skills
and assist you with analysing SAS data in your research. The workshop wil
l focus on applications in materials science\, colloids\, soft matter syst
ems and the like.\nProtein solution scattering Users interested in the ATS
AS package should primarily consider attending the AusBioSAS Workshop to b
e held over 13 - 16 November at the Australian Synchrotron. A basic workin
g knowledge of the Irena package is assumed and you will need to bring a l
aptop with Irena running on it. The plan for the course is:\nDay 1:\n1. In
stallation of both packages and verification of functionality\, short pres
entation on data reduction and analysis in SAS\n2. Nika data reduction:\n&
 #160\;&#160\; a. Orientation in the program\n&#160\;&#160\; b. Calibration
 /geometry\n&#160\;&#160\; c. Mask design\n&#160\;&#160\; d. Data processin
g\, sector and circular data reduction\n&#160\;&#160\; e. GI geometry\, li
ne profile\, profile around ellipse…\n&#160\;&#160\; (if really interested
… f. Programing for Nika (look up functions))\n&#160\;\n3. Irena data anal
 ysis:\n&#160\;&#160\; a. Orientation in the program\n&#160\;&#160\; b. Imp
 ort of data\n&#160\;&#160\; c. Data plotting \n&#160\;&#160\; d. Scatterin
 g contrast calculator\n&#160\;\n&#160\;\nDay 2:\n\n3. Irena data analysis
 continued:\n&#160\;&#160\; e. Data manipulation\n&#160\;&#160\; f. Unified
  fit\, advanced analysis\n&#160\;&#160\; g. Size distribution\n&#160\;&#16
 0\; h. Modeling tools\n… other tools if time &amp\; interest...\n&#160\;\n
A modest registration fee is needed to cover the costs of hosting the even
t\; lunch and morning and afternoon tea is included each day. GST is inclu
ded in the price. You will need to arrange your own travel and accommodati
 on.\n&#160\;
