DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce the Australian Synchrotron workshop
‘Phasing Macromolecules with Xenon Heavy Atom Derivatives’.\nWorkshop date
 s\n&#160\;\n11 December – 12 December\, 2012\nThis workshop will focus on
Xenon derivatisation techniques\, data collection\, data processing\, and
structure solution from Xenon derivatives.\nPurpose of the course and inte
nded participants\n\nThe purpose of the school is to address structural so
lution problems using Xe phasing. This alternative method for preparation
of heavy derivatives is specifically useful for relatively large protein m
olecules (&gt\;20 kDa). Preference will be given to participants with diff
racting protein crystals which have thus far proved intractable with other
phasing methods.\n\nThe course is intended mainly for graduate students a
nd postdoctoral researchers in the area of structural biology. In some cas
es\, Assistant-Professor-level applicants may be accepted. \n\nThe school
is not meant as an introductory level course for protein crystallography.
It is designed for applicants with sound understanding of and reasonable e
xpertise in crystallography.\nWorkshop Aim\n&#160\;\nThis workshop will co
ver the practical aspects of Xe derivatisation and some aspects of structu
re determination using the derivatised crystals.\n\nThe workshop will cons
ist of lectures and tutorials complemented by hands on use of our Xe deriv
atisation apparatus and data collection at the beamlines.&#160\; This will
be followed with data processing and structure solution using XDS/iMOSFLM
  and Auto-Rickshaw/Phenix/SHelX. &#160\;\nRegistration\n&#160\;\nPlaces fo
r this workshop are strictly limited and will be in high demand.&#160\; Re
gistrations will be assessed on merit basis.&#160\; If you would like to a
ttend\, please email your CV\, a letter of support from your supervisor or
professor and a paragraph outlining the motivation for attending the cour
se to christine.gee@synchrotron.org.au by 26 November 2012.&#160\; You wil
 l be advised if you have been accepted by Wednesday\, 28 November.&#160\;
If accepted\, you will need to register by Friday\, 30 November or your pl
ace will be allocated to the next eligible student.\nThe workshop registra
tion fee is $100 including GST.&#160\; Lunch and morning and afternoon tea
 s will be provided.&#160\;&#160\;\nWorkshop Venue\n&#160\;\nAustralian Syn
chrotron \n800 Blackburn Road\nClayton 3168 Victoria\nThank you to our Wor
