The successful applicant will ideally possess: 

  • Demonstrated experience in precision mechanical design with an emphasis on technical accuracy, prototyping and testing, and delivery - ideally on scientific instrumentation related technology.
  • Experience in disciplines such as ultra-high vacuum systems, techniques for vibration mitigation, precision mechanics and methods of actuation.
  • Strong theoretical/analytical background, knowledge of FEA desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of 3D solid modelling and ability to produce mechanical CAD drawings for production.
  • Demonstrated outcomes in coordination of difficult projects that involved high performance requirements and devising new approaches.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance competing priorities effectively and to produce quality work within tight time constraints.
  • Ability to lead project teams of various scales consisting of specialists from various scientific and engineering disciplines using well developed project management skills.
