Congratulations to Prof John Boldeman, former Director of the Australian Synchrotron Research Program, who this week became an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO), for his distinguished service to nuclear science and technology, particularly for his work in co-designing and overseeing the construction of the Australian Synchrotron.

Prof Boldeman played a lead role in proposing and promoting the Australian Synchrotron within government and the research community, as well as in the design of the facility.

Prof Andrew Peele, Director of the Australian Synchrotron, joined the congratulations.

'At a time when Australia lagged behind its international competitors in the advanced technological capability that synchrotron facilities provide, John was a tireless enabler for the case for the Australian Synchrotron.

Thanks to efforts such as his, the facility today stands as one of the most significant investments in landmark scientific infrastructure ever made in Australia and has already delivered enormous benefit to Australia's economy and wellbeing.'
