Who is eligible to take part in education lab sessions at Australian Synchrotron?

Australian Synchrotron education lab sessions are open to students studying VCE Physics Unit 4, Study Area 2: Interactions of Light and Matter, and Detailed Study 3.1: Synchrotron and its Applications.


Where are the student lab sessions held?

Student lab sessions are held in the National Centre for Synchrotron Science Education Lab, at the Australian Synchrotron.

How long is the lab session?

The day lasts approximately 5 hours, with sessions starting between 9am and 10am depending on how far you may need to travel on the morning of the session.


How is the session structured?

Students begin their day with a guided tour of the Synchrotron, followed by a practical lab session with our lab demonstrator, including a lunch break.


Is there a canteen for students to buy food, or should they bring their own?

Students are welcome to purchase their lunch from the Kitchen Synch Café, located within the National Centre for Synchrotron Science. Students are welcome to bring their own lunch, should they wish to do so. The Kitchen Synch Café has ample space for students to sit and enjoy lunch, with indoor and outdoor seating and a microwave for heating food if required.
